Jo's Trust homepageJo's Trust Fighting Cervical Cancer is a registered charity dedicated to women, their families and friends affected by pre-cancer and cancer of the cervix.
The successful development of vaccines to prevent infection with specific types of HPV, identified by research as the principal causes of cervical cancer, represent a major scientific breakthrough in preventing this cancer in future generations of young women. June 20th, 2007. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) made a recommendation that HPV vaccines should be introduced routinely for girls aged around 12-13 years, subject to an independent peer review of the cost benefit analysis. Jo's Trust welcomes this announcement as well as the Department of Health's agreement in principle of this recommendation with the hope that a vaccination programme will be introduced during the 2008 school year. Jo's Trust will campaign on the importance for women to continue to attend for regular screening and for an improved uptake in those aged 25-29. The NHS Cervical Screening Programme saves 4,500 lives every year. Jo's Trust - making a difference.
