The Hidden Festival
near
Hungerford, Berkshire
Saturday 27th September 2008
(2pm-until Midnight)
On the 27th September we are hosting the first ‘Hidden Festival’. This is a one-day event in aid of Jo’s Trust (www.jotrust.co.uk). Our aim is to raise as much money and awareness for the charity, have an amazing days worth of music and establish ourselves as a great small festival. With some of the best up and coming bands on the scene performing, we are hoping to create a truly brilliant day. Our plan is to create a low-key friendly atmosphere full of friends and like-minded people. The location is a large barn on a working farm outside Hungerford, Berkshire, which gives an idea of relaxed country living, which is lost at the larger festivals. With a capacity of 400 people we hope to bring a taste of the home-grown DIY styled festivals of the 60’s and 70’s like the early events at Worthy Farm (Glastonbury). On site there will be a burger van, an ice-cream van, a T-shirt shop by Pop-Cash clothing, a farm shop with fresh produce and most importantly a bar!
We hope to see you there.
Florence and the machine:
This South London girl describes her music as the kind that ‘Lily or Kate would make if they’d grown up locked in a cage full of snakes in the basement of a Louisiana funeral home.’ Her soulful voice has caught the eye of the music industry and with a host of festivals, including Reading and Leeds, under her belt this summer it won’t be long before she is snapped up and signed.

King Charles:
With a distinctive look and a unique sound, it is hard not to notice King Charles. He describes his music as acoustic/folk rock/country and writes clever lyrics which entertain and make you think.

Rum Shebeen:
These boys are from Camberwell (also home to Florence) and write songs with haunting backing vocals that make you feel like you’ve just stepped into some sort of vaudeville spectacle in a church yard with a reggae/ska band playing in a bandstand.

The Correspondents:
This band describes what they do as Swing/Hip Hop/Drum and Bass, and that is astonishingly exactly what they have created. You won’t have heard anything like this before. Think, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone drinking late into the night with Fatboy Slim and Mr. Scruff until they roll around on the floor in fits of naughty laughter and you’ll be close.

Patch William:
Busy working the London circuit, Patch William have poetic lyrics and songs full of imagery. They like to think that their music embodies ‘Jimi Hendrix awoken from the dead to fight against Buddy Rich and a young page boy in an epic battle of legendary proportions and consequences…’ I think you’ll have to make your own mind up.

Hella Cholla:
With an 'as recommended by' accolade from Radio 1's Annie Mac, this girl-boy duo are off to a flying start. Their Latino sound and soulful vocals make for perfect summer listening and their energy on stage and their ability to tell stories sets them apart from other Indie pop.

ENL:
Pop Punk Indie expolding out of North London. Amongst other things, they have been described as ‘A young Franz Ferdinand with the charisma and raw sound of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.’

I Said Yes:
I said yes have been very busy this summer. They say they are influenced by laughter, sonnets and black forest ham…You may spot them roaming around equipped with an accordion, tambourine, glockenspiel, viola and melodica playing their fresh folk ditties.

Telephone Telephone:
Four descendants of Alexander Graham Bell come together to bring you melodramic pop songs about Alexander Graham Bell and telephones. We’re joking of course. Go to their myspace to find out more.

The Wild Mercury Sound:
These chaps range from 15 years old to a ripe 16 years old. They are already making themselves heard on the London scene and aspire to make guitar music which will mean something to people. They remind me a little of Jack Penate at that age but with their own unique and warm sound.
