Cancerbackup was launched as a national cancer information service in October 1985. Its founder, Dr Vicky Clement-Jones, through her own experience of cancer, realised that cancer patients, and their families and friends, had a great need for high quality and up to date information, practical advice and support.  They also provide a list of local support groups by area.


CAPCIS is the Cancer and Palliative Care Information Service and is an internet information gateway which aims to provide an organised, easily-accessible and up-to-date directory of key services, service providers and appraised information on cancer and progressive, life-limiting conditions. It is for patients, carers and healthcare professionals.


Counselling Directory is a support network of UK counsellors and psychotherapists, with information on their training and experience, areas of counselling covered, fees and contact details.


DES Action UK are a medical charity whose aim is to provide information to the public and medical practioners about DES - diethylstilboestrol. This is a synthetic oestrogen prescribed in the UK until 1975 to prevent miscarriage for which there have been several side effects.


DIPEx is an Internet-based multimedia resource and database of Individual Patient Experiences that will act as a 24-hour support group aimed at improving patient information.


Eyes on the Prize is an online support group for gynaecological cancer survivors.


Female Health Issues is a website offering information and advice on women's health.

Four Counties Cancer Network provides information about our work in the geographic area covered by Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.


Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and campaign for better cancer care.


The Hysterectomy Association is committed to providing impartial information to women who have had, or who are contemplating, a hysterectomy; to enable them to make appropriate decisions for their long term health.


Macmillan Cancer Relief is a UK charity that works to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer. Currently over a million people are living with cancer in the UK and, if current trends continue, more than five million will be diagnosed between now and 2020.


Macmillan Cancer Support provides information about where to go for local support.


Marie Curie Cancer Care is dedicated to the care of people affected by cancer and the enhancement of their quality of life through its caring services, research and education. The charity provides care for today and hope for tomorrow.


NHS Choices is a "one-stop-shop" of easily accessible information on health and well-being.


NHS Direct is a 24 hour nurse-led telephone advice and information service and is part of the National Health Service. By calling NHS Direct you and your family has round the clock access to information and advice about health, illness and health services.


Ovacome is a UK-wide support group for all those concerned with ovarian cancer, involving sufferers, families, friends, carers and health professionals.


PALS is available to get patient advice and liaison services throughout England.


Talking Cancer is a place where patients and carers share their experiences of cancer and offer each other support.


The Women’s Nationwide Cancer Control Campaign is a UK based charity dedicated to promoting the prevention and early detection of cancers affecting women.


USA sites

In 1999, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded a five-year, $50 million grant to the Alliance for Cervical Cancer Prevention, a group of five international organizations with a shared goal of preventing cervical cancer in developing countries.


The American Social Health Association is dedicated to improving the health of individuals, families and communities, with a focus on preventing sexually transmitted diseases and their harmful consequences.


Cervicalhealth provides emotional support and information free of charge to those diagnosed with cervical disease. It is our goal to lessen the anxiety triggered by diagnosis of the disease through compassionate discussion with those at the Center who have been similarly diagnosed, education about the disease and its treatment, and referral to other organizations which may be of assistance in the time of need.


The National Cancer Institute co-ordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.


The goal of the National Cervical Cancer Campaign is to eliminate cervical cancer through increased education, outreach and enhanced communication between women and their health care providers.


The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC) enhances awareness of cervical cancer prevention, the Pap smear and proper follow-up, HPV, new technology and treatment options.


Oncology Channel works to raise the quality of consumer health care information services. Our goal is to empower you with accurate, trustworthy information that will help you make important health care decisions. Board-certified physicians develop and monitor the content on oncologychannel to ensure that we meet that goal.


Women's Cancer Network. The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF) was established by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) in 1991 as a not-for profit charitable organization to raise funds to support philanthropic programs to benefit women who have, or who are at risk for, developing a gynecologic cancer.


Australian sites

The Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria is an independent, volunteer-based charity whose mission is to lead, coordinate and evaluate action to minimise the human cost of cancer.


Canadian sites

In partnership with provincial and territorial governments, Health Canada provides national leadership to develop health policy, enforce health regulations, promote disease prevention and enhance healthy living for all Canadians. Health Canada ensures that health services are available and accessible to First Nations and Inuit communities. It also works closely with other federal departments, agencies and health stakeholders to reduce health and safety risks to Canadians.
